I'm a long time role-player. I've done tabletop, MUDs but my bread and butter has always been AOL chats. For a long time AOL chats were the place to be. Some younger folk on the interwebs these days may not remember, but there was a time when everyone had AOL because it was the only good ISP available.
Then broadband hit, fiberoptics spread across the US and AOL was no longer the best of the best. Dial-up was too slow compared to DSL and cable that was rapidly becoming very affordable. These days you don't see a lot of either dial-up users or people who use AOL for their ISP--however now the program is available for f
